Okay. New Computer time.
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4254765 has all the details. I would like last quick opinions before I go ahead and order; after the latest round of price cuts with nVidia and Intel it seems really an optimal time to get this machine. I've got some room to spend a little more, but not much. I don't need a super-gaming-oomph machine, but would like good bang for the buck.

EDIT: Ordered! woodlander encouraged me to a slightly better power supply I was debating anyway, and there was also a $5 promo code for the RAM.

2GB RAM seems like overkill to me. My XP box is just fine with only 1GB. You could always add more later! Aside from that, the specs look reasonable to me.

The 1 Gig/2 Gig question is significant. I could probably do fine with 1, but given how much RAM likes to add in pairs and be synchronous - even if it's not supposed to - 2 1-Gig bars seems like the way to go for now.

I'd buy a board with 4 slots and add 2 512-MB sticks now.

4 slots in this board, and went with 2 1-gig sticks.

The only thing I see lacking is an OS. I'm guessing you've got a copy of Windows or Linux on hand to put on there. I'm also assuming you're gonna use the keyboard and mouse you already have.

As for the ram,I wouldn't go below 2gig on a gaming machine, myself. I don't how much of a load CoH is on a machine. From my experience with WoW, however, the difference between 1 and 2 gig can be fairly noticeable.

Do you plan on using SLI in the future?

SLI is a vague plan, and certainly one I want to be available for my system.

And yes, I'm using extant copies of Windows XP, as well as current Keyboard, mouse, and monitor. (There's backups of all three of those for when the current machine becomes Momgoose's.)

Haven't been playing CoH for a few months, Secondlife does take up a good plenty of system resources though.

$115 right now for that power supply. Gaaaaah.

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817101021 was a ponder for Power supply as well, and offers that dual 12V (Which it's never been adequately expalined to me WHY I need it) and a little stronger-seeming specs.

See I don't overclock my video cards, sir, they last. ;)

Okay, as you're the second person who's encouraged me towards a better PSU, I've gone to the other one. For only $25 more seems reasonable.

(And whoo! A promo code saved me $5! now I can justify it. ORDUR)
