Me, Smile

So, how do you top free beer?

Back from Merrimack, New Hampshire, where I spent some of Thursday and most of Friday hanging out with my Dad, while he was there on business (CSC sending him to BAE Systems). As he was working Friday, I decided to kill the time by checking out the local Anheuser-Busch factory tour, as it was just a half-mile down from his hotel.

Turned out to be a rather nice, mildly educational tour (A-B uses 9% of the Rice crop in the USA, for example). Saw the brew kettles and whatnot, and there was free beer at the end! Two glasses at that. And pretzels. On the downside, the production lines weren't running that day, so I didn't get to see the bottling in action.

About equal in good with free beer was seeing the Clydesdale team. Very pretty Clydes, well cared-for and stabled, a good-sized exercise yard out back. A-B has the largest herd of Clydes worldwide, they said. One was being groomed and trimmed that day. There were about 10-12 there on site I saw, perhaps more.. six in the 'show stalls', the street team of stallions.. though four of those six were gelded, so, there is a price to fame.

After that, killed a bit more time shopping until Dad was out of work, and decided to catch dinner up in Manchester, NH. Whereupon we were faced with a suffusion of 'Event Parking $12' signs. Confusion reigned until we reached the arena there, whichw as advertising Harlem Globetrotters Tonight!

So, natch, we bought tickets. And it was good indeed. The same show the Globetrotters have put on for years, good goofy basketball with humor and high athleticism and showiness. Much dunking. Obviously it's more kid-focused entertainment, but, great stuff yet. Better yet, it was accidental a discovery.

Which made it better than Free Beer.
